Dr Oakden-Rayner graduated with his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2007 and subsequently completed his radiology training in South Australia and the Northern Territory. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) in 2016 after completing a year of advanced MRI training at Flinders Medical Centre.
Dr Oakden-Rayner is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Adelaide, working with an international team to better understand individual variations in patient's health using artificial intelligence.
Dr Oakden-Rayner has a subspecialty interest in thoracic and abdominal imaging. Prior to joining Dr Jones & Partners, he held an Associate Clinical Lecturer position at the University of Adelaide and was an Invited Lecturer at the University of Melbourne. He is regularly invited to talk to professional organisations, the media, and the general public about radiology and artificial intelligence.
Dr Oakden-Rayner is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, the Health Informatics Society of Australia, and he co-founded the South Australian Radiology Research Network.
